On November 20, 2008, the Paulding County Jail closed its doors due to the failure of the operation levy in November's general election. This closure resulted in the permanent layoff of 12 full-time staff members and 10 part-time personnel. With the closing of the jail we changed our status as a 24-hour "Full Service Facility" to a 6-hour "Temporary Holding Facility".

Today, with 4 full-time staff and a few part-time personnel, we book and hold inmates in the two holding cells located in the booking area. Inmates are held until they are transported to a housing facility, not to exceed 6 hours of confinement in the Paulding County facility. The Staff provides 24-hour coverage for our holding facility, and has a host of responsibilities such as conducting pre-booking health screenings, booking, fingerprinting, photographing, and finally transporting inmates to a facility to be housed. The staff also has the added responsibility of arranging and providing transportation for inmates to and from court and medical appointments.

Last year 331 inmates were booked into the Paulding County Holding Facility, giving us an average daily population of about 12 inmates per day. The current per-diem rate Paulding county pays to house an inmate at Van Wert or the Putnam County Jail is $45.00 a day

	Jail Captain David W. Cline Email Jail Captain   The Jail Captain oversees all operations of the Sheriff's jail/temporary holding facility. This currently includes scheduling, managing and assisting three full-time Jail Sergeants and part-time Correction Officers. He reports to the Sheriff regarding the jail operations and all of its financial and budgetary aspects.
JAIL SERGEANTS The Jail Sergeants' duties include a host of responsibilities such as conducting pre-booking health screenings, booking, fingerprinting, photographing, and finally transporting inmates to a facility to be housed. The staff also has the added responsibility of arranging and providing transportation for inmates to and from court and medical appointments. They also maintain the files and booking records of all inmates of the jail, past and present, and are responsible for invoicing the inmates' for their stay at the jail. The Sergeants and Correction Officers are trained professionals that have learned how to handle intoxicated, and other difficult individuals, while keeping their safety and safety of others in mind.
